Fishing Derby Fun!

Gearing up for a day fishing out on the harbor!

Hey guys welcome back! For those of you that don't know my name is Jaiden. This week I went to Save the Harbor Save the Bay's annual fishing derby for the first time! Although I didn't catch as much as I'd have liked,  it was still a ton of fun being on the boat with my friends trying to catch a fish. I spent the day on the Belle with Captain Mike and a few other Save the Harbor staff. Even though the day was longer than a usual work day, I didn't mind because of the fact that I was out there having fun and catching fish!

Me on the Belle with the Save the Harbor crew!
Today turned out to be one of the best days of the summer because of how much fun it was. Me myself, I'm not really the fishing type but Wednesday made me rethink that because of how much fun I had. I had so much fun kicking back chilling with friends, in nice weather listening to music while we fished. This was by far one of my top 5 days of the summer and I can't wait to do it again next year!

Fun in the Sun!

Look at the baby green crab!
Welcome back guys! Nice seeing you again. For those of you who may not know who I am I'm Jaiden and this week were back at Spectacle Island and so far it's been a blast! So far this week we've helped everyone that's come with us to the island have the most fun possible. Whether that be from fishing, swimming or even sports. No matter which activity you did as long as we were there, we made sure everyone around us had a good time!
This week we caught dozens of crabs while fishing. From rock crabs to green shore crabs, and even to spider crabs, the kids loved playing and interacting with every single one of them. For some of these kids seeing a spider crab is a party for them and that's something I'm proud to say I played a part in making happen. Everyday brings new faces and news smiles and a new energy and it brings joy to every single one of us at Save the Harbor Save the Bay!

Football at George's

Welcome back everyone. For the new comers my name is Jaiden and this week at George's the highlight of my week was playing football with a family during sports. It was great because they were good players and had even better sportsmanship. Although this particular day at George's wasnt nessasarily the best looking day due to the fact it had on and off showers and cool weather but that didn't stop us from coming out and having a great time and enjoying a game of football.
It was an all around blast playing with them. They had fun playing with us and no matter who was up or who just scored there were no negative points it went nowhere but up this shows that at Save the Harbor it's not just about the kids but we make sure people of all ages have fun no matter what. Whether that be from having them come down to the dock and fishing with us or coming up to the field and playing a game of football or kickball or soccer. You love having fun and we love having fun with you so take the next opportunity you get and come out and have fun with us.

Fun in the Fort

Playing catch at George's island.
This week started off great on Georges island! It began with a rainy Tuesday no doubt, but it turned into a fun one by the end of the day. My Tuesday was spent at sports in the opening of Georges island, where we spent time with the kids playing football. Although it was a bit rainy and a little cold we held it together and still managed to have a ton of fun and didn't let the weather affect us at all. We also helped people go through the dark tunnels on the island and might I tell you that its by far one of the coolest things ever.

Strike a pose for the blog!
While Tuesday was a blast, Wednesday was just as amazing as the day before. It was warmer, sunnier and we had a whole bunch more fun. No more rainy day gloom hanging over the harbor! Today I spent the day fishing off the dock at George's island with a bunch of different groups of kids from he city and might I just say it was a blast. They had a lot of fun fishing and I had a lot of fun showing them the way to do it properly. I couldn't have asked for a better day!

Book n' Boogie fun

this is me helping out at Discover Quincy's Book n' Boogie

This Thursday I spent my night at Wollaston beach with some really cool people from Discover Quincy at there event called The Book n' Boogie which was a public event where kids brought in their books  to donate and when they got there not only was there food drinks and music but also my friends and I were there to give kids an opportunity they haven't had before, which was to create a fish print using a real life fish! Now for some of these kids its 2 new experiences in one. fish printing, and touching a dead fish for the first time and might I tell ya, they loved every second of fish printing
this is kamal and i passing out prizes to the winners of the raffle

The Book n' Boogie was a very exciting experience due to the fact I not only got to interact with people while fish printing, I also got to interact with them around the park and on the dance floor. It was refreshing to learn the kids names and what they like to do. This was my first better beach event not only for the summer but ever and I just have to say that it was a blast and  can't wait for the next one.

Revere sand sculpting festival

Hey guys it's Jaiden back at it again with another blog and this week I'd like to tell you about the my second better beaches event of the summer which was the sand sculpting festival in Revere. This Saturday I basically got front row seats to watch the Revere sand sculpting festival while also doing something I find extremely fun which is fishprinting. Bright and early Saturday morning I was at revere beach giving any and everybody the opportunity to try fish printing on a real life fish and bring their creation home.

My Saturday was a boat load of fun because of the fact it mixed a new experience and something I really enjoy doing. As someone who's never been to the sand sculpting festival I'm extremely glad I spent my first one with save the harbor. The smile on the kids faces from creating a fish print combined with the ecstatic faces of the people in awe at the sculptures plus the fact we were on the beach were the defining factors that caused Saturday to be what some would call a "perfect day"

Day of Courage

Me showing the kids how to cast a fishing rod.
Hey guys nice to see you back again. If you don't know my name is Jaiden and this week at the Courageous Sailing Center I spent my day showing the kids how to fish off the dock and also how to create their very own fish prints. The day was a bit chilly but something about the feeling of the salty breeze, the sound of the water hitting the dock, and the kids enjoying their Friday made the day all the better for me!
Me commanding the fishing club at Courageous
all by myslef!
This Friday was a blast and although it was swift due to the fact we leave a bit early it was one of the best days due to the fact that it was full of firsts! What I mean by that is for the first time I ran our fishing club without the help of a senior harbor educator. Although it was definitely a challenging task to do, it was an exciting new experience for me to try and I'm glad I got the opportunity to do it. I tried something new today, I encourage you to come down to the harbor and try something new with us!                                                                               Yours truly,                                               Jaiden C.

Views from the Charles River

This week, for the first time ever, I spent my Monday at Community Boating Inc. in Boston, and what an experience it was. I spent the day at work teaching kids how to fish on one of the docks along the Charles river, and that's not something people can say they do often. Something else really cool that I learned  how to do was how to tie a trilene fisherman's knot, which doesn't seem as complicated to do once you get the hang of it, it's a lot more simple than I had realized.
