Last week we brought crayons and markers to Piers Park, to give the kids an opportunity to use their creativity but also to really hone their observational skills. W
e gathered all the critters we caught and added them to our make-shift touch-tank (a big clear Tupperware filled with sea water!), taking turns catching and drawing. Some were impressively detailed works of natural history, others were a bit more imaginative--one girl drew a mermaid in the Boston Harbor (but I know they're not real, she assured me). All in all, the kids were just as excited to catch critters to for a real purpose (to be models!) as they were to document their catches (to take home and show off!). They let me borrow the picture to scan so that I could share them on the blog, and I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I did.
