On Thursday, May 19th, ICOM-US and Save the Harbor/ Save the Bay partnered to conduct a cleanup at Carson Beach in South Boston. Although it was a cloudy day, volunteers were eager to clean the urban beach in preparation for the busy summer season.

The morning started at the McCormack Bath House with an introduction to Save the Harbor’s mission from Kristen Barry, the Deputy Director, and Maria Rodriguez, the Environmental Policy Assistant. This collaborative event got the attendance of over 10 volunteers coming from all different parts of the United States who were all excited to remove trash, weeds, debris, and branches from Carson Beach. The two hours were spent with volunteers and staff getting to know each other while promoting teamwork to reach our common goal of leaving the beach in better condition than we found it.

It is because of groups like this that we can continue to say that Carson Beach is one of the cleanest urban beaches in the country. A huge thank you goes out to this wonderful group of volunteers that were excited to learn more about the Boston Harbor, as well as giving a lending hand to clean up our beaches!
