The Seafood Festival!

Becoming lobsters and lemon!

This past Sunday I got the chance to work one of the shifts at the seafood festival and it was so much fun! Last year was my first time coming to the seafood festival and it was a ton of fun so I already knew what to expect. This year however, there were a bunch of more stands of food and other stations to visit and especially many new things to learn about. To start of, where we were stationed at, we had fish printing and shell painting. Also I got a really cool shirt from a company that was stationed right next to us named Lobster Box and we took a bunch of funny pictures. Aside from the fun pictures and awesome free shirts, one of my most favorite things to do at the seafood festival ever since last year, is shell painting! There were over 200 sea shells spread out on the table all for the kids to come and pick a shell of their choosing and let their imagination run through the tips of their paintbrushes! We had all types of paint colors and glitters to put on the shells. One of the little girls bedazzled her shell with glitter and purple hearts everywhere! Although it got a bit messy, it was still nice seeing the smile on the kids faces when looking at their shell-sized master pieces. Not only did the kids paint shells, I also got to paint a few myself and we got a bit creative. Last year Nieomi and I painted Nemo, Dory, Spongebob and Patrick. This year we decided to keep the trend going by painting Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy on the sea shells which came out better than I had expected! This Seafood Festival is definitely one of the highlights of my summer so far. Not to mention I also got some cute dolphin and turtle temporary tattoos at one of the stations too!

I really can't wait till the next seafood festival because I had a blast at this one.

Always exciting events

Hi everybody. So this past week was a little different than usual because on Friday my group and I didn’t go to Camp Harbor View. Instead we went to Carson beach for the annual Beach Bash and Splash. We had a great time on friday playing games with kids, face painting, clamming, fishing and fish printing. It was very hot on Friday so there was plenty of water and food for all of the kids. I was assigned to the sports section so I was playing soccer, football, frisbee and many other games with tons of kids. At 12 in the afternoon we all lined up on the edge of the water and we all sprinted into the ocean. It was really refreshing and overall just a great day.

On Sunday I worked at the Boston Seafood Festival at Boston Fish Pier. I had never heard about the festival but it was really cool. There were a lot of tents all from different seafood organizations and they sold delicious food. The Save the Harbor tent was the best tent by far. We had a fish printing station and chalk to play with but the most popular table was the shell painting table. We supplied sea shells, paint and brushes for the kids and they had a blast. My friend Ahmed even painted me a shell as a surprise.. This festival was exciting for almost every age and I hope to do it again next year.

Seafood Festival

Earlier today, the Boston Seafood Festival took place on the Fishing Pier. It was a big event with tents and stages setup along the entire pier; all the way from the busy road at the pier's mouth, to where the pier meets the water at it's very end. These tents were filled with fresh seafood for sale, and sometimes for free. The main attraction at this event may have been the live cooking lesson, where a professional chef displayed how to prepare and cook a seafood dish. The delicious smell from this event wafted along the entire pier. There were also slush stands, ice cream trucks, and a ton of games and activities that families and kids that attended the festival could enjoy. The Save the Harbor tent was packed to the rim with families who partook in our fish printing and shell painting stations!

We had hundreds of shells on site for kids to paint, and I think most of them are now decorated and covered in colors. The tent was bustling all day! I had the pleasure of entertaining two shell painters-named Emma and Aiden, who suggested that we all paint dolphins. Emma and Aiden made their dolphins light blue, like a real dolphin, and black, respectively. I painted the dolphin green because I've never seen a green dolphin before, and to be honest with you, I wanted to see a green dolphin. They were great designers. Afterward, they instructed me to create an octopus with rainbow colored tentacles, who they named "Rainbow." We had a good laugh at how funny Rainbow came out.

I also tried my hand at fish printing, which we've done a few times at Piers Park: Home of the Original Fish Printed T-Shirt. We painted real flounder with colors and patterns that anybody wanted, then pressed them onto paper and t-shirts. The paper makes great refrigerator decorations, and the t-shirts are awesome souvenirs that are made with your own unique creations.

This event was amazing, but I'm hoping that next time, Saver the Harbor will partner with a Pizza Festival or Chili Contest; I'm not a huge fan of seafood.
