Wednesday woes

This Wednesday went from 0 to one hundred rather quickly. My day started out pretty well honestly, I got to black's creek and met all the other save the harbor save the bay staffs Ana, Nieomi, and Edward.(Zach drove me to black's creek so he was there too) And after we all got the supplies ready for the first group of children. The first group had a good time, they found a good amount of green crabs, hermit crabs, and even a rare minnow. And played some games Gaga ball and some other things like Mr. fox and Uncle Sam. And then we dismissed the first group and prepared for the second one. This is when the the rain kind of started but it was only drizzling. We still got through the day and ended up stopping a rather quickly, so we went back to crab catching, letting the kids have fun and playing games like a couple Uncle Sam, kickball, and Mr. Fox. And we ended at the  regular time of 12 o'clock. After lunch we got in at Boston children's museum and as soon as we
got in the rain gave no mercy. It started pouring bullets and we had to get under a tent and see if any people would like to look at the crabs under that tent after a good hour of waiting for people. We decided to bring our crabs inside the BCM and show them crabs and we ended up finishing our jobs inside the Museum.
Me "enjoying" the rain.
Hopefully the rain goes easy on us from now on...

Ice Cream Cones and Trash Can Living

It's always ice cream weather!
Thursday was yet another rainy day. The rain came down but the fun did not stop. After lunch I decided that an ice cream cone was in order. After I had purchased a nice cold soft serve twist my new friend Rose came over to test out her fishing skills. Rose was on a trip from Hawaii and had never been fishing before! She told me all about her friends at home and her pets! At some point in the conversation she asked me where my house was and impulsively I decided to tell her I lived in the trash can we were standing next to. She poked some holes in my story, claiming that there was no way my dog, my mom and I could fit into that one trash can. She was pretty clever. In between our garbage can debates she asked me about turtles and what she could catch in the harbor. Even her Dad was interested!
Saving a crab from under my home!
Everyday is a bit different and we get to interact with different people all the time but every Thursday my two favorite kids come to visit. Oscar and Isaac are two Australian kids who recently moved to Boston and love fishing! Isaac is an expert crab wrangler and knows as much about crabs as I do! He likes to teach other kids about identifying green crabs and their gender. He has no hesitations when it comes to holding even the biggest of green crabs. He encourages his younger brother Oscar to hold them too, even when he's a bit scared! Oscar and I played with the kickball for a while too! Rolling it back and forth and Jennifer even got in on the game with us! Both kids are a joy to see every week!

A Little Rain Never Hurt Anybody!

Hello There!

Tuesday started off like any other beautiful day at Georges Island. The sun was shining and the weather was hot. Luckily, we were back on Spectacle Island. That meant we could take a cold and salty shower in the ocean at the end of the day.

Being stationed at the fishing club meant cutting up bait in the toasty sun. I could smell the squid being cooked in the 90 degree weather. If you smelled me, you would think I was a chef preparing calamari for our harbor guests. I was tempted to wash off the foul smell when I was collecting water for our touch tank. As I placed the tank into the ocean, the waves washed onto my feet. It was so refreshing that I wanted to go deeper into the water, all the way until my body could not longer feel the scorching heat. But as always, duty calls. Plus, if I didn't brought the touch tank back, the crabs would dry out and what would I scare the kids with then?

The Save the Harbor team is the only ones in the water!
As the day came to a close, the sun receded and the clouds came onto the scene. The wind started blowing and the sky became dark. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the rain started to pour. I heard the screams of the kids as they ran to find shelter. I looked onto the beach and it reminded me of a scene from Jaws when everyone would get out of the water when they saw the shark. However, we determined that the rain would not deter us from going for a nice cold swim. We quickly got changed and raced towards the water. The feeling of the rain pounding on my body made me feel as though the ocean was slowly engulfing me in it. Once I got in the water, I felt as though I could stay in forever. Unfortunately, our time in the ocean was short lived. The rain stopped and the sun came back out just in time to dry my clothing for the boat ride back home. What a perfect ending to a perfect day.

Until next time,
Henry Liang

Mohawk on a Rainy Day

When I was little, I always liked to play in the rain. I still do, but it's not the same. On this rainy day, two kids brought me memories from back then. They started to play in the water and then one of them wanted to give himself a hair style named "the Mohawk". He was struggling to keep his hair up, so I decided to go over and help him because I used to have that hair style for seven years straight. It was kind of difficult to make his hair stay up because I wasn't using hair gel and his hair was long. After trying for about three minutes, I finally got his hair to stay up.
When I was done with his hair, another kid came to me saying that he wanted the same hair style. His hair was shorter but it was long enough for what he wanted. It's funny how his hair took me more time to keep up than the other, even tough his hair was shorter. At the end, when both of the kids had the same hair style, they started to walk around the tent showing everybody their new hair. They were happy and I was too because the kids reminded me of how I used to take care of my hair when I used to have "the Mohawk" and how I used to play in the rain when I was little.
