Beach Party 2012!

How can I start, this beach party was the best! Everybody did their part in making this beach party the best! It was a nice way to end the summer. I had to be on the grill, grilling all the hot dogs! Carolyn, Andrew, Leon and myself where grilling in one of the grills. Leon and Andrew grilled the hot dogs and Carolyn and myself had to but them in the hot dogs buns. I never seen some much hot dogs in my life! Before lunch time the Kids and all the staffs there were there all ran into the beach at the same time, now that was fun. I didn't get to do it this year because I was grilling but seeing everybody else was good feeling. There were so many kids like 200+ kids! There were different activities like: sports, fishing, kites, art, sand castle and Boston Harbor Explores which was the best one because we had TWO BIG LOBSTERS, when I mean BIG they were BIG! When I took the biggest lobsters out to walk around and show the kids, the faces the kids put when they seen how big the lobster was. It was priceless! After all the playing around, and enjoying the weather the beach party came to an end! Some of the Save The Harbor/Save The Bay staff got into the water which the water was really COLD! Then we had to clean up which it wasn't as messy.

Fishing !¡

On thursday we had a fishing tournament. On the boat i was in, i was with Leon, Anthony, Andrew and Patty. We wasnt so lucky to get any fish because this year has been not so good to get fish. The captin took us to the triangle to see if we can get lucky to catch a fish but we wasnt lucky, then the captin took us to a different location and once again no luck! Because there wasnt any luck with the fishes we ended up falling a sleep on the boat. It was a nice day to go fishing becuase last year it was to hot. The little boat ride was good but it would of been better if we got fishes.

A Good Week :)

This week has been fun. I was on the island this week. Spectacle Island it was! On Thursday, Manny and I went to the top of the hill to fly kites with the kids, but the kites didn't work at all! Some of the kids were upset but we made the best out of it. Manny and I had to come up with something to do with the kids, so we decied to play what the kids call "fishy fishy cross my ocean". That game was so fun and funny, the kids were running everywhere. We finished the first game and the kids wanted to play again so we played again. After the second Manny and I took the kids to the beach.

Shelburne Girls!

Shelburne Girls, they are a part of a group of girls and boys but today we had the girls only. When they got to the Bank of America Pavilion I gave them a drawing to color and of course i stayed there with them coloring too. They asked me alot of questions like whats my name?,  whats my nationality?, they even asked me if I would stay with them all day! Their names were Jada, Kiandra, Jasmine, Jasmine and Jalean. When we got to Spectacle Island the kids ate lunch, then they all went to the beach. The girls wanted me to get wet but I said no because the water was too cold and they started to laugh at me! One of the girls even asked me to talk to her in spanish because she knew how to speak it also. Then all the other girls asked us what we were saying and we both told them.

Boston Children's Musuem

Hey Everyone, today is my second time being here. I'm really excited to work with the kids. With the kids we will be fishing, and catching crabs.
The first two kids that I worked with today are so smart. Jake and Conor are their names, Jake already knew how to fish so he wanted to do something different. I took him to the crab catching, Jake got a spider crab. He was so excite but he was scared to pick it up.

Staff Day :)

Monday was Staff Day. Today all the members from Save The Harbor / Save The Bay went out to Spectacle Island for a wonderful BBQ. I had so much fun. I started wetting Conor with water then he got me back, that's how i started my day. Then we went to go play some game that had to do with a flag, i don't know the name of it. After that we went to the beach, but the water was really cold. When i went under the water i got a big brain freeze, it was really bad that really hurt too. After all i enjoyed my day :)

Health & Fitness Day

Today at the MLK Summer Scholars was health and fitness day. We had some people come in and talk to us about how to stay fit and healthy. Today lesson was kick boxing, that was fun. Everybody was up and moving around and having fun too. What I learn today was that it takes alot of work to be very good at kick boxing. Another thing i learn was that kick boxing is not just for males it's also for females too. I can't wait for next Friday :)

The Big Fishing Tournament 7/21/11

Today Bruce is taking all the staff members from Save The Harbor/Save The Bay out fishing. This is my FIRST time fishing and I'm happy that I will have a the chance to go out into the Harbor and fish. I was the first one to catch a fish, my fish was 28 1/2 inches long. When I got my fish we were still in the Harbor now that's cool. On that day I learned a lot from Bruce and I enjoyed fishing and I would LOVE to do it again. Even though i didn't win first place, my friend Kristina Acevedo won first place with a 35 inch fish that's pretty cool. I'm proud of myself and also proud of her too. We both go to Fenway High School.

My first week!

Yesterday I was working at the McDonough Sailing Center. It was really hot out yesterday, I felt really dehydrated but that didn't stop me from having fun with the boys. I took some of the boys into the beach and they were looking from crabs and shrimps, we caught a lot of them too. After that we went back to center. The boys went in to the water again, but Jacob and Tim started wetting me with the holes so I start wetting them back but they were already wet, then we started to wet David and Vinh that was funny. I had a good time with them. Yesterday was a good day :)

June 29, 2011 My first Day of Work!

Today I got to meet the members of Save The Harbor/Save The Bay. We got to do a ice breaker to get to know the members. I had fun playing the ice breaker because I got over my shyness. Then we walked to the boat, we had to wait for a couple of minutes while we were waiting so we took pictures of one another finally the boat came. The boat took us to 1 of the 34 islands, Spectacle Island.

When we got there we got a little intro about the island and the history behind it too. Then David took us around the island and also told us a little more about the history of the island. We ended up on top of the island were we could see the city and also some of the island. What I learned that day was that there are 34 island but 2 out of those 34 island they became little towns. Before we left the island we got to walk on the beach and we had to find something interesting.

I had a good time but my feet were killing me a lot.
