After making superstar bracelets with Brian, I stormed the beach with a 12 foot beach ball! It was probably the most fun that I've had so far this summer. Just seeing a 12 foot beach ball going back and forth across the beach is a sight in itself. People stopped just to watch us play with it. Kids were teaming up together to push it up and down the beach. They even pretended it was a super monster beach ball and were running away from it, pretending it was going to get them. So many smiles and laughs were produced by this over sized ball of fun. It was a great family night and can't wait for more to come. Until next time, and keep saving the harbor, Preston.

Beware the Giant Beach Ball
Hey guys! Last night, we had the second Family Fun Night of the summer on Carson Beach. This time, we had a nice set up for fish printing again. But we also introduced some new games and activities to the families who came out to hang with us! We brought a GIANT inflatable beach ball to the beach. Let me tell you, that was as much a hit for the kids as it was for the staff and other adults in attendance! Although it went rogue on us a couple of times, we still had an absolute blast with it!
Also, with music playing the entire night, you know that some harbor explorers (yours truly included) had to make an appearance on the makeshift "dance floor" at the front of the pavilion. We had a blast dancing to Cha Cha Slide with some new friends and old. Some of us stayed dancing throughout the evening, making up choreography with kids and having a great time like we were kids ourselves. We had many more families than last time, which was such a treat! With the cooler air, more people came to check out this awesome event on the beach and learn about what their neighborhood beaches can offer on a daily basis!
See y'all at the Beach Bash and Splash!

Pirates and Fish Prints
Recently I participated in an event with the South Boston Neighborhood House at Carson beach. While at the event, I was sent back in time and became a pirate. Norah Dooley, as the pirate Mary Read, came with supplies to turn the rest of us into pirates as well. The kids looked and waved at me all during the event. They loved it. It was a little strange for me, only being able to see out of one eye. As I walked around looking at and talking to both kids and adults, I got looks and "argggghs" from everyone.
At the event, we also had fish printing. Most kids really liked this. They loved picking the different colors and seeing the real fish. They picked the colors that they liked and where those colors went on the fish. The kids' faces lit up when they saw how the colors transfer from the fish to the paper. I have no doubt that the kids who went home with a print will hang it up and have fun memories of the experience for a long time.
Until next time-Joe

Family Fun Night on the Beach

We also hid about 10 blue marbles on the beach, and set all of our event goers out there to try and find them. We told them that they would be entered to win enough JetBlue miles for a trip! And, as a one-time winner myself, I assured the searchers that this was a real possibility. Here we have featured a marble-finder in all her glory.
Wrapping up another week as an SHE,

Family Fun Night
Family Fun Night in Southie was awesome. A lot of the kids that showed up were all really excited and they were all interested in what we were showing. There was this adorable little boy who said he wanted to become a marine biologist. The boy was really interested in what we had brought and he was asking really good questions. He made everyone there smile because of his excitement over marine biology. The event was full of cool people showing other interesting sea animals and shells and they were explaining everything.
At the event, my very good friend from McDonough Sailing Center, Mae, was there with her brother and her mom. Mae was really excited that Save the Harbor was there and she was very interested in what we were doing. The kids at the site were all really interested and most of them were brave enough to touch Larry, the giant lobster. Before the event, I was not sure what to expect, but it was really fun and all the kids were enjoying themselves. All our attractions were awesome and by the looks of the kids they all enjoyed it.
This week at Piers Park was really different and cool. "The man with the boat" A.K.A Mr. Martin was so nice that he let us go on his sailboat. All the kids did something that they had never done and they were all very excited to be on the boat. Mr.Martin was so cool that he let the kids paddle his little dinghy that was attached to his big sailboat. Today we also had pizza from Blaine and Alex's dad which just made the day even cooler than it was before. This week I caught another fish at McDonough Sailing. It's the second fish that I've caught.
