"The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever."
- Jacques Costeau
Hi my name is Catherine Simon. I'm from Winter Haven, Florida, but I go to Boston University where I'm a senior majoring in public relations and minoring in environmental analysis and policy. Right now, I'm taking LSAT prep classes and will be taking the actual LSAT in June. I hope to do environmental law in the future.
I've always had a passion for the environment, especially the ocean. Since I was three-years old, I've gone lobstering in the Florida Keys, which will always be one of my favorite places. There's no better feeling than being in the water.
I usually look for advocacy internships where I can combine my communication skills and environmental knowledge with my love for protecting the environment and animals. Save the Harbor/Save the Bay is a fantastic organization with a really great strategy for fulfilling its goals. Unlike other non-profit organizations I've interned for, it has the most well balanced perspective toward getting donors and stakeholders on its side.
So far I love the office's location. I hardly ever come to the harbor since BU is pretty far away, but it's always nice to be near the ocean. I also love the wafting smell of fish, and how the office is nestled between seafood companies. This ambiance is fitting for such an organization.
I'm very excited for my internship here. I really want to delve into the policy and legal aspects of what Save the Harbor does. All of my past internships have primarily dealt with the public relations and marketing aspects of organizations, but I'm looking forward to diverging from this. I hope I also get the opportunity to go out into the field and explore the harbor islands I have had yet to visit.
This will be my first summer in Boston, and I'm happy to spending it at Save the Harbor/Save the Bay.
