Staff day, Chaff day

I enjoyed staff day the most out of all the days that week because we were allowed to wind down and relax with each other for the day. I went into the field at the top of the hill for the first time on spectacle island and I played an intense game of frisbee with my staff, such as Luke, Bridget, Amy, Kristen, Ian, Amanda, Ary, etc. We wanted to hit a streak higher than the one before and the highest we got to without dropping it was 25. It took a long time but we were determined to do it before lunch time. Or else no lunch (jk).

After lunch we went to the beach to go swimming, the water was freezing, it must've been high tide since the water was super deep. I took like five steps and it was already up to my shoulders. The waves weren't crazy that day and everyone got in. The water felt really cold but also really refreshing since I was on the hill roasting in the sun earlier. I certainly got to know more staff and socialize with them and I'm much more comfortable with everyone than I was at the beginning of the summer.

Ultimate Frisbee on Staff Day!

Hey Guys,
So we all know that staff day was Monday, and we all know how fun it was. But I think one of the best things about staff day was playing Ultimate Frisbee, well not really. It was more like "throw the frisbee around in a circle and lets see if we can catch it". Either way it was still a lot of fun. The best part was seeing Kharliyah come so close to catching a Frisbee but not quite close enough. Somehow we got on to counting how many people could catch the Frisbee. We got all the way up to 24! But no further. It took us almost half an hour just to get up to 20. The motivation being that we could only eat lunch once we reached 30. And for some reason we had decided to play on a hill so of course we
were struggling a little bit to even throw the Frisbee well enough for someone to catch it. It was honestly a lot of fun, which says a lot coming from someone who does not play much frisbee. I only wish that we had been able to get all the way up to 30, but that was not all that happened on Staff day. On the boat, the Ptown 2, I was one of the people to tell a story. I decided to go with when I had dropped my phone in the Harbor at Piers Park. That tragic story may not have been my best story, but it was the best I could come up with.
Wow, we look amazing caught off guard. I gotta say that I really liked Andrea's story about the lobster trap. I couldn't believe that they had so many people helping to pull up a trap and they couldn't even pull it up! Or Ahmed's story about how "Save the Harbor" "Saves the dogs". It was stories like those which made me wish I had a better story to tell. Oh well, Until next time!

Staff Day at Spectacle

Story time
This years staff day was one like none other. We started off with an initial plan that took a change in direction first thing in the morning. Then we attempted to try our back up and we still had to use an alternative plan. Thankfully our boss, Bruce, knows a thing or two about strategy.
Good play boys

We had some of our best laughs, experiences, and summer fulfillment together as a cohesive staff on Spectacle this past Monday. On our harbor trip in the morning we shared some amazing stories. Edward told us about his thrilling kayaking trip with the children at his site, Jahari shared his highs of his summer, and I shared the infamous "Save the Harbor/Save the Boxers" story. I felt like a bit of David, our harbor historian, rubbed off on me the way I'm able to share stories with groups now. I guess thats what a few years of AABH will do to one.

Photographer "A" at your service
Our annual All Access vs. No Access kickball game didn't happen but we still played football and frisbee amongst other activities. It was not a traditional staff day, but, we made the best of it. I also learned that I'm a decent photographer. Joe P. lent me a camera which I used to catch some photos throughout the day. I told him about my recent interest in photography and purchase of a Canon T5i DSLR camera. He gave me some pointers as I hope to start a new hobby, photography!

At the end of the day I walked away with nothing but smiles and a watermelon.

It was a good day.

A break from the kids

Hello everybody. So usually people think Mondays are boring but this Monday was an exception because it was staff day for Save the Harbor. We took the ferry to Spectacle Island for the day and we did a lot of activities. In total the staff consists of about 30 people so we had tons of sandwiches, chips and water. When we landed on the island we put all of the food down and we ran up the hill to one of the highest points on the island. When we got up there we basically split into two groups. There was a group for frisbee and a group for football. I decided to play football because I am not good at frisbee at all. We played a really long game in the blaring sun for a while until we needed water and we decided to go back down to the dock.

We ate lunch under a big tent in the shade where we had delicious subs, chips and cookies.  After lunch we went in the ocean for a swim to get a release from the heat. The shore was really rocky so you needed sandals to walk down to the water. Of course only a handful of us actually had water shoes so it was a struggle to get into the water but once we did it felt great. The water was super refreshing and we played some frisbee. When we got out we relaxed for a little while before the ferry came to take us home. We had a great day on Monday playing with our coworkers and friends on Spectacle. We all love working with kids but it was nice for a change to spend the day with our friends. I love the people I work with but now it’s time to get back to work with the kids this week.

See you later
