Tess Shaw - Diving In

Hi Everyone!

My name is Tess Shaw, and I am looking forward to ~diving~ into my role as an Operations Intern at Save the Harbor/ Save the Bay this summer!

I am originally from Connecticut and currently attend the College of the Holy Cross where I am a rising senior. I am majoring in Environmental Studies and minoring in Dance. I chose my major because I am extremely passionate about the environment. I love my major because it spans a variety of curricula, which allows me to investigate the environment and environmental issues through several lenses. My coursework in marine biology and geology, in particular, has led me to become interested in the effects of urbanization and pollution on marine environments, as well as the prevention of environmental degradation. After college, I hope to attend law school, as I am interested in pursuing a career in environmental law. Outside of school, I enjoy dancing, hiking, baking, and swimming in the ocean.

There are few things in life that I enjoy more than being at the beach. From a young age, I have been fascinated by the waves and "ocean critters” that live below and beyond them. Some of my fondest memories are at the beach on Hilton Head Island with my family. Being by the water makes my soul happy. Save the Harbor is located on the Fish Pier overlooking the water—what more could I ask for?

I am fortunate to have the opportunity to learn about the ins and outs of a non-profit, particularly one with a mission that resonates with me. I am excited to spend my summer at Save the Harbor/ Save the Bay!
