Last week we brought crayons and markers to Piers Park, to give the kids an opportunity to use their creativity but also to really hone their observational skills. We gathered all the critters we caught and added them to our make-shift touch-tank (a big clear Tupperware filled with sea water!), taking turns catching and drawing. Some were impressively detailed works of natural history, others were a bit more imaginative--one girl drew a mermaid in the Boston Harbor (but I know they're not real, she assured me). All in all, the kids were just as excited to catch critters to for a real purpose (to be models!) as they were to document their catches (to take home and show off!). They let me borrow the picture to scan so that I could share them on the blog, and I hope you'll enjoy them as much as I did.
