Reeling in Another Summer!

Hello!

My name is Caroline Wilbur (pronouns: she/her) and I am one of the summer 2021 Senior Harbor Educators (SHE) for Save the Harbor! I graduated from Bridgewater State University in January of 2020 with a degree in English, and a focus in Communications and Secondary Education. After graduation, I started teaching English Langauge Learners (ELLs). I have now completed my first year as a teacher in a middle school in Quincy. In addition to teaching, I also coach for the high school swim team, and I help lead the garden club.

Having spent my year teaching remote as well as in the classroom, it is a refreshing transition, going back outside. While I love teaching, nothing can compare to spending every day outside at the beach learning more about Boston Harbor history and the wildlife in the harbor. Every summer when I am not working I love to spend time surfing at the beach, and hiking different trails around New England!

This summer, I am so lucky to have the opportunity to join the Save The Harbor crew for a second summer! It will be a great time for each of us to learn more about the programs that Save The Harbor has to offer!

I am looking forward to sharing the history behind Boston Harbor! Specifically, since we have so many new sites to explore! I am especially excited to learn more about Wollaston Beach in Quincy since this location is so close to home.

After a long school year, it has been so exciting to get the chance to meet members of our team of Zoom and briefly in person! My favorite part of orientation was getting to see my team members from last year Jasmine, Aleena, and Damani. In addition to returners, we have so many new faces on our staff! I look forward to getting to know the team.

Sea you next time!

A picture from our staff trip to the Charles River, I was so excited to kayak and identify various wildlife.
