A Little Bit About Me!

Hey Save The Harbor Crew!

Let’s start off with the basics. My name is Ashley Peña, I’m 15 years old, a sophomore at Excel Academy Charter High School, I model, and I’ve lived in East Boston my whole life. I’m pretty sure I’m the youngest, but I’m excited to work with a group of older people and get to learn as we go! My first year of high school was good, but there’s definitely things I would change/add. I want to be more involved in my community and my school, whether that means joining sports, doing more volunteer work, etc. With that being said, that’s the main reason I decided to work at Save the Harbor/Save the Bay.

My mom came here from the Dominican Republic when she was a month pregnant with me. Being Dominican is truly a huge part of my identity and I love going there. Ever since my mom got here, she’s worked with kids at multiple different day cares.

Just like her, I love working and being with kids. It reminds me of my own childhood memories. I have a 6 year old niece and a 1 year old nephew. Seeing them grow and develop every day is one of my biggest blessings. I know that having this job and being able to work with kids will make my summer a great one and I’ll actually look forward to it every day.

I admit, I wouldn’t say the ocean is one of my biggest passions like some of you, but I do like trying new things. During orientation, we all went on a boat and got an introduction to fishing. I tried to catch something but it got away! However, I now know how to fish which is useful for when kids come up to me and ask if they can fish. We also came to the Children's Museum and got the logistics on how things at that site work. I want to be an entrepreneur and major in business but more specifically in international business. My main goal in life is to travel the world, and I will do it. Working with companies from different places around the world seems like fun to me. I like negotiating with people, so I've also considered being in something such as Real Estate. Fun Fact #1: I’m a bit scared of boats, but I’m sure that within a few days I’ll get over it. Fun Fact #2: I love writing, way more than reading actually. So blogging throughout the summer looks like a great way to develop my skills, it won’t seem too much like “homework.” :)

On the boat during orientation!

That's just a little bit about me for now. I can’t wait to make memories this summer with all of you on and around Boston Harbor and have it be more than just a seasonal job!
