Kids vs Crabs

Hi everyone!

Sorry about my delayed blog--I have been away for a couple of weeks. This was my first week working with the kids at Piers Park and Courageous Sailing.  We spent most of the time fishing and kayaking. Although we were looking forward to catching fish, we mostly caught European green crabs. We even set up crab traps that ended up being very successful.  Even some of the kids in the site caught crabs.  We did end up catching some fish. We even caught a fish egg sac, although, I’m not sure what kind of fish egg it was.

Not only did we see crabs and some fish, I also saw some jelly fish while I was kayaking with some kids.  These jelly fish were the kind that do not sting.  They are called moon jellies. Their skin was so soft and moist. It was like touching slime because it was so smooth. Kayaking was fun for the kids and the camp leaders.  I found it very entertaining and relaxing mostly because it was very hot outside, so just feeling the cold water felt good.  I did manage to catch some crabs during the week but I didn’t catch as many as I wanted to; however, I was still proud of the amount of crabs that we caught.  We also thought of some fun games to play with the kids, such as a game we like to call Moosie Moosie (which can be altered into different names).

See you next time,

Sebastien
