The First Fish

The First Fish

Hello, my name is Sebastien Sanon and I go to Xaverian Brother’s High School.  This is a story about my first time fishing.  Day 2 of work, I was stuck in traffic so I was pretty late.  Everyone else was already at our meeting spot, almost about to board the Belle (the boat we were going on) without me, but luckily, I arrived before they left.  When we went on to the boat, I was excited because it was going to be my first time fishing!  I learned how to do things such as putting live bait on a hook, and how to cast a fishing line.  I also learned a lot of rules in fishing. For example, the law requires that certain fish have to be over 12 inches in order to be kept, otherwise they must be released back into the water.

This experience also helped me to practice patience because I wasn’t really catching much fish in the beginning.  I almost gave up on fishing because I had seen everyone else catch a fish and I hadn’t caught any, but finally I felt something nibbling on my fishing rod so I kept pulling and reeling in the line until I saw what I had caught.  To my surprise, it was a 11-inch fish. Unfortunately, it was too small, so I had to release it, but I was just happy to catch a fish for the first time.
