Hey all! I am so happy to say that I really enjoyed my first week! This week, I worked at the McDonough Sailing Center in South Boston at Castle Island, and what a gorgeous view the area offered me. The ability to see most of the Harbor Islands was a great advantage to teaching the kids about each island, and the beach front allowed the kids to fish and crab trap with plenty of space. I worked with an amazing group of people, and I formed great friendships within a few days. One of my favorite memories from this past week was one of the crab traps coming off of the rope and being stuck in the water. Although I was a little skeptical of their ability to be able to retrieve it, three campers were DETERMINED to fetch the trap from the depths of the ocean floor and to save the day. In reality, it was a struggle for them. However, they did not give up. They absolutely refused to come out and take a rest when we asked them to, and they each took turns trying to dive down and rescue the trap. Even when their mom came to pick them up, they did not stop attempting to get the trap. Eventually to got to the point where Conor had to jump in and get the trap, and although the girls were not the actual savers of the trap, they were truly proud of the effort they put into the job. Also, today a girl caught the biggest crab out of all the other crabs caught this week, and she was so excited to tell her mom when she came to pick her up. Although we had to throw it back into the water, she left the camp with a genuine smile. So far, my work experience payed off. I mean, it's not everyday kids will swim to the bottom of the ocean for you!
