A Dream to Kayak in the River

Hi my name is Myriam Annie Desir and I work at Save the Harbor/Save the Bay.  Some of you may know me and some of you may not. Yesterday we were at the Charles River site fishing again with some kids new to the Charles River Explorers. In the first hour we had not been lucky enough to catch anything, but we kept trying.  Then we decided to walk to the other side of the river and guess what we found? Many different types of fish swimming in the shallows! The kids didn't want to hook them because they were cute, so we decided to utilize a dip net instead of a rod.  The kids and I put our feet in the water and walked to catch them with the net. We didn't catch any  but we had a lot of fun trying.

We also went kayaking at Community Boating. It was my first time kayaking, and as we say in French "Chaque chose a son temps" meaning "Everything has its time" and it was my time to try something new.  I was excited and nervous at the same time, because I saw the kids and staff do it and I wanted to try . Back In Haiti we have kayaking, but when I was little my guardians didn't have the resources to allow me to kayak so I was never able to try It until now. Before kayaking I had that weird thought in my mind that said to me "you can fall in the river and something is going to eat you" that made me feel nervous. Yesterday was finally the day I stood up and said "I can do it". In the end it didn't really matter that I was nervous because I had a great time kayaking, learning new things with the kids, and I didn't even fall in!

See you there!
