In with the NEW

To be honest, I was feeling a bit nostalgic as I came in to work today. I had just found out that, starting this week, there is a whole new set of kids coming in to Courageous. Just when I started to form great relationships with the young ones, they are leaving me just as fast as I had met them. I started to reflect back on the first two weeks and the memories I have made. They were a great group of kids and I will always remember them! They will always be the first group I worked with here at Courageous and they certainly made my summer that much better. They are also the group I experienced my first catch with which makes their departure even worse for me. I really appreciate the smiles I shared with them as well as the laughs. Even though I spent such a limited time with them, they have really made a mark in my heart. I am going to miss those kids!

Jump rope fun with the first group!

When I thought about the new group more, I realized it is not so bad. I am starting new, with a new set of kids that I am sure will bring me smiles and laughter just like the other group. I can create even more friendships and memories. Since these kids were new to Courageous and to us at Save the Harbor, we decided to teach them about how to fish and how to do it safely. Since I am sort of an expert fisherman now, (yeah right!) I volunteered to teach them the basics and what it takes to catch a fish. I taught them the components of a fishing rod like the hook and the bail. I also taught them how to cast their line and emphasized how important patience is when it comes to fishing as well as being aware of your surroundings. The new kids already managed to put a smile on my face which reassures me that I will have a great time the next couple of weeks! Well that is all for today! I am really excited for what this week will bring and I hope everyone has fun at their sites.

Fishing 101 for the new little fishermen!
