Coming Out of Their Shells

Will here again, this week at Blacks Creek something really great happened at our site down on the water in Adams Park, Quincy. Along with our regular first session group we had a new kid sign up for his first day. He was very skeptical at first to leave his mothers side as he was pushed toward the group of big scary staff members. His name was Huy and had just turned seven. I don't know what happened from the 9:30 to 11:00 that morning, but he became a completely different kid. He went from being shy to becoming a complete leader among the group. He lead kids in the marsh to look for green crabs and minnows on our scavenger hunt. His smile just made me smile on that dim Wednesday morning.

Seeing him feel comfortable with the group and have the ability to explore is what it's all about. That really brightened up my day and motivated me to finish the rest of the day strong!
