Case Closed!

Hello again fellow adventurers, the mystery of the unknown fish has been solved! After many hours of continued research, the unidentified fish found at Courageous Sailing Center has been identified as a Rock Gunnel.

Characterized by its slender eel-like body, rock gunnels spend the majority of their time sheltered from predators in rocky outcroppings and in our case, lobster traps! Very similar to mudskippers, rock gunnels have the ability to breathe air, which allows them to avoid predators at low tide. This adaptation allows for increased survival rates and even more time for showing them off to the young explorers!

It was quite a relief to finally identify this odd looking creature, and I hope to find even more unique and exotic creatures throughout the summer.

Until next time everyone, keep on exploring!
