First Post!

This summer I am excited to join the Save the Harbor/Save the Bay team for the first time as a Leader in Training! I am a recent graduate of Boston Latin School and I will attend Harvard University this upcoming fall. Having grown up in Dorchester and having sailed on Boston Harbor for the past eight years, I look forward to learning about the Harbor's marine life and history and fostering the same excitement in all those I meet through the program this summer. My first introduction to the Harbor was so positive that it has remained an important part of my summer experience ever since. It is my hope that other young Bostonians and children in the surrounding beach communities will have similarly positive experiences through Save the Harbor/Save the Bay programs this summer and will enjoy and learn from future summers spent on the Harbor. In my first two days, I have already learned a great deal about the history of Spectacle Island, fishing, and crabbing. I set up a fishing rod for the first time, was taught the difference between male and female Green Crabs, and found pieces of glass and pottery dating back to early 20th century Boston on Spectacle Island.

These experiences have set my expectations high for the rest of the summer as I'm sure there will be many new learning experiences for both myself and the children involved in programs throughout the city.
