Action and Relaxation

Hello again fellow explorers!

Well it was bound to happen sooner or later; the first heat wave of the summer has officially hit. The combination of temperatures creeping up into the low 90's and dense humidity, the magic word this week has been water! We still played our favorite games like "fishy, fishy, cross my ocean," but playing for extended periods of time left everyone sweaty, tired, and unmotivated.
Somehow I managed to survive this near shark attack!

In such sweltering heat water was our saving grace,  We were constantly refilling water bottles and even running through the local park's water fountain! We also played a camp favorite called, "Drip, Drip, Drench." In this "Duck, Duck, Goose" spin-off, the person who is it uses a cup of water to decide who they want to be the goose. It kept everyone cool and refreshed, and some of the counselors found themselves absolutely drenched in water (including myself!)

Kayak city, population: 16
In an attempt to dry off but also remain cool, some of the counselors and myself took three kids apiece out in Kayaks to explore the cove of Piers Park. With some clever thinking and quick ingenuity, we realized that the kayaks could be attached to one another, and we eventually constructed a mega kayak! With four people paddling on either side of our now floating colony of kayaks, we could move around with ease. With 16 campers and counselors in total, we spent the majority of an hour exploring the cove as a team, and also found time to enjoy the cool breeze of Boston Harbor.Although this heat wave took us by surprise, we found ways to fight back and make the most of our "heated" situation.

Until next time, keep on exploring!
