My name is Garrett Koenig. I’m 16 years old and this is the first year I am working for Save the Harbor/Save the Bay. I am a student at the O’Bryant School of Math and Science. Last year, I was a CIT at Camp Harborview on Long Island in Boston Harbor. I got the chance to swim, sail and kayak on Boston Harbor and I loved it, especially the kayaking. I feel very lucky to live in Boston. My family has lived here for four generations. My grandfather has told me stories about visiting the Harbor islands and jumping into Boston Harbor to swim as a kid 75 years ago. It’s great to share stories with him.
I try to stay busy and I have many interests. In addition to school, I like to hang out at Camp Harborview’s Teen Center afterschool and play pool with friends. I’m a Boy Scout in Dorchester’s Troop 40 and camp a lot in the fall, winter, and spring. I have volunteered with Fair Foods for about 3 years now, mostly helping to unload food from the trucks and helping customers carry their bags of vegetables. I often take along my camera to get some pictures. I love photography and go on walks around the neighborhood just to take pictures. I am also interested in computers and last year I built my own. I like to write poetry and play games involving your imagination like Dungeons and Dragons.
In the future I would like to take all my interests, the
outdoors, helping people, photography, etc. and combine them together using
computer technology as a tool to enhance them.
See yall on the harbor!!!!!
